Kosi Bay is hands down “South Africa’s hidden gem” – The Kosi Bay mouth, aptly known as the aquarium, the 4 lakes system with crystal clear water and winding channels, 5 species of mangroves combined with 800 year old traditions of the amaThonga people – is without doubt one of the most surreal and peaceful environments that you will ever find yourself in!
Come enjoy camping under the beautiful shaded uMdoni trees and join us during the day on our famous “Safari And Surf Kosi Bay Adventures”. Activities include Kayaking, Snorkeling, Traditional Thonga fish braai at the fish kraals, Birding walks, Fly fishing, Lake boat cruises, Turtle tours, Swimming with dolphins in Mozambique and Game drives in Tembe Elephant Park.
On booking you will receive an informative Kosi Bay Adventures Info Pack with a thorough introduction to the area and the activities on offer.
Check in time at your campsite will be from 12:00. On arrival you will be welcomed by Thonga smiles.. Your campsite will be nicely shaded, close to the ablution facilities and will have an electrical connection point.
At 16:00 your activity guide from Safari And Surf will come to introduce himself/herself to hear if you have any questions or would like to book additional activities.
Your guide will meet you at your campsite at 07:00.
From here you will join him on a lovely walk down to the estuary. Along the way he will point out birds, edible fruit and medicinal plants used by his people.
On arrival at the estuary, you will join him on a 2hr Kayaking Experience through the fish traps, around the mangrove islands and up river Kukalwe. The serenity of the estuary will have you breathless!
Arriving back at the starting point our guide will introduce you to one of the traditional fish trap owners. He will give you an introduction to his daily routine around the fish traps. This will end off around the fire with a traditional Thonga Fish braai and palm wine tasting session.
After lunch you will be guided down to the Estuary Mouth where it is time for a Guided Snorkeling Experience.
Snorkeling in this famous area known as “The Aquarium” is incredible with a huge variety of colorful fish, morey’s, stonefish, lionfish and pipefish present.
The northern corner offers interesting sightings under the fallen hibiscus and milkwood trees, often flute-mouth, pick-handle barracuda and river snapper.
After snorkeling its time to warm up with a lovely cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate before our vehicle will transfer you back up the hill to your campsite.
The day is yours to relax at the camp or we can arrange another exciting day for you with all the incredible activities on offer!
